How this got started !!
I own and operate a home improvement business called Home Is Priority One Savings. I’ve been a single mother of three, a married woman and mother with a husband that just couldn’t or wouldn’t do any kind of home improvement projects. Through a lot of reading and watching and helping my father do these projects I learned that I am a woman but I could do everything and anything that I wanted. I knew I was pretty good at these things when my father choose to call me and not my brother to come help him hang cabinets in a laundry room.
While visiting a friend, a single mother of 3 boys, I realized she did not know how to do basic things around the house. She showed me a broken porcelain light and the replacement for it was laying on a shelf. I said let’s get this fixed she just couldn’t believe that I knew how to do this. I guess that’s when I realized that women need to know how to do these things.
I was volunteering on the Pataskala, Ohio Ad Hoc committee to Revitalize three area neighborhoods and the Save The Dreams task force in Licking County Ohio. I decided we needed a non-profit here, but more importantly we need to teach women and men how to do things around the house. After all it’s our biggest asset
My uncle passed away and my aunt had to start learning how to do things that he had always done. I hated to have to say to her, life as you knew it is over and you’re starting a new life by yourself. You’re going to have to learn to do all these things yourself. At the age of 63 that was something she really wasn’t for sure about. But she’s learning that she Can Do these things. That helped come up with the name.
I want to offer women an opportunity to learn skills that will help develop self sufficiency, and too empower them by learning and to gain a sense of confidence in their abilities to do all types of things. I am also learning that men too are intimated by doing some things around the house.
